An important part of any professional training will focus on cleanliness, so when choosing your beauty vendor, make sure that your artist uses these best practices too. Below are some of the techniques we use to maintain the highest level of cleanliness with our clients.
How is Triple Twist different?
We make you look your best while maintaining the highest standard for cleanliness. We only use professional makeup and hair products, purchased at professional outlets that require business licenses and permits. We use products from Shu Uemura, Chanel, Dior, Make-up Designory, Ben Nye, M-A-C, to list a few.
We take cleanliness very seriously, and follow strict guidelines when it comes to maintaining clean equipment and a clean environment.
Cleaning Makeup Brushes
At Triple Twist we clean and dry all of our brushes with Dante’s Professional Brush Cleaner after every client. After a thorough cleaning, we allow the brushes to dry horizontally for 24 hours.
We chose Dante’s cleaner because it is safe, effective, and is endorsed by the Make-up Designory in Los Angeles and New York.
Cinema Secret’s Professional Brush Cleaner (the blue stuff) is a popular professional brush cleaner, but it contains some harsh chemicals — in fact, it has some of the same agents that are used in dry cleaning fluid. While this is not necessarily ‘unsafe’, it is not ideal.
Lastly, we have multiple sets of our brushes, so there is always a disinfected, dry brush for every client.
The bottom line is this — make sure you know what your artist is using on your face, and ask about cleaning techniques — artists should have a thorough knowledge of the products and be able to provide you with detailed answers.
Applying Lipstick
All lipstick is taken from the original packaging and applied to a sterilized Ben Nye palette. Lipstick and gloss are placed on the palette, then applied with a cleaned brush.
This palette is cleaned with 99% isopropyl alcohol before and after each use. This method prevents transfer of product between clients. Again, if you do a trial and a sterilized palette is not used, ask your artist if the product they are using is brand new and if their brushes have been cleaned. If either answer is no, understand that the tools and product being used may be unsanitary.
Pads and Puffs
The pads and puffs that we use in our sessions are used once per client. You are welcome to take them home after your trial, or take them and use them at your wedding for quick touch-ups. They are prefect for this, because after your makeup session they will contain your custom foundation color. If you choose not to take them, we dispose of them after you leave.
Everything Else?
Curling irons, flat irons, combs, and the like, are all disinfected after each use, and our studio is cleaned daily by a maintenance crew. I hope this helps answer some questions that you should have about cleanliness with your makeup and hair artist! Triple Twist’s ‘clean techniques’ are industry standard in Hollywood. If you have any questions, feel free to email.
